Animation

Huni Bolliger animation showreel

After completing an Arts degree and Diploma of Education, Huni taught herself animation as a way of combining her love of art and storytelling. Following the success of her initial films, she went on to complete a Masters of Film, Television and Animation at the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne University with Honours, in 2008.

Her graduate animation The Dressmaker’s Daughter  screened at over twenty international film festivals, winning multiple awards in Australia and overseas, including the Special Jury prize at Hiroshima Animation Film Festival.

In 2014, Huni was the animator for the historical ABC documentary Blown Away, the story of Cyclone Tracy. It was during the making of this film that she developed a passion for working with local history, documentary and archival photographs. In 2018 she was the Creative Residence at the NT Archives Service where she made four animated films using local stories and archival materials.

Huni recently designed and co-animated sections of an anthology feature film called We Are Still Here, supported by Screen Australia and the New Zealand Film Commission. The film had it’s world premiere at the opening night of the 2022 Sydney Film Festival, and it’s international premiere at Toronto International Film Festival.

Huni was thrilled to have two films selected for the 2022 exhibition The Magic Arts: Australian Animation from the 1970s to Now at the Gallery of Modern Art, Queensland.
