Huni Bolliger animation showreel
After completing an Arts degree and Diploma of Education, I taught myself animation as a way of combining my love of art and storytelling. Following the success of my initial films, I went on to complete a Masters of Film, Television and Animation at the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne University with Honours, in 2008.
My graduate animation The Dressmaker’s Daughter screened at over twenty international film festivals, winning multiple awards in Australia and overseas, including the Special Jury prize at Hiroshima Animation Film Festival.
In 2014, I was the animator for the historical ABC documentary Blown Away, the story of Cyclone Tracy. It was during the making of this film that I developed a passion for working with local history, documentary and archival photographs. In 2018 I was the Creative in Residence at the Northern Territory Archives Service where I made four animated films using local stories and archival materials.
Most recently, I designed and co-animated sections of a First Nations anthology feature film called We Are Still Here, supported by Screen Australia and the New Zealand Film Commission. The film had it’s world premiere at the opening night of the 2022 Sydney Film Festival, and it’s international premiere at Toronto International Film Festival.
I was thrilled to have two films selected for the 2022 exhibition The Magic Arts: Australian Animation from the 1970s to Now at the Gallery of Modern Art, Queensland.
